Subway Tiles Ahoy!

When you spend so much time working on handmade lamps for sale, it can be quite difficult finding enough hours in the day to do anything else, which is why it’s taken me until now to start redecorating my house. I moved in just over a year ago and haven’t really had the time to do anything to my house apart from paint the hallway, so it still feels a bit like the previous owner’s flat.

But no longer! I’ve finally found the time to put my bespoke lamps down and pick up the grout and spacers. OK, so I found the time to call in the tilers and get them to do it. I did originally entertain notions of doing it myself and picking up the fine art of tiling, but I’m so glad now that I didn’t – I would have totally destroyed my kitchen and as it is, Ste (owner of Complete Wallworks in south Manchester) did such an amazing job.

The original tiles were these horrible textured brown and off-white abominations that I’ve lived with and hated for months and months. Originally, Ste was going to take them off but they were really stuck on there so he just tiled over the top. I did feel bad on day one, however, because I asked for grid formation instead of brick, so he had to start again. Sorry, Ste!

It’s not entirely finished – I ran out of tiles because I asked for a herringbone pattern in the middle to take the place of my old splashback (definitely my favourite bit… I can’t stop staring at it) and I haven’t put my new worktops in yet, so some tiles may come away when the old one is taken out, but I can’t describe just how much I love my new kitchen. I love to cook anyway but guaranteed I’ll be in the kitchen even more these days… so come over for dinner!
